U.S. Consumer Bureau to Supervise Biggest Debt Collectors, October 24, 2012
The accounts-receivable industry had revenues of $17 billion in 2011, according to Kaulkin Ginsberg, a Rockville, Maryland-based consulting firm. In addition to collectors, the industry includes buyers, who purchase bad debt from creditors such as credit-card issuers. Debt collectors can be independent agents, employees of buyers or members of law firms.

Mergers and acquistions: In search of certainty, October 18, 2012
Because most people are expecting severe budget cuts, buyers are only interested in firms that won’t end up as extra baggage, said Michael Lamm, a Director with Rockville-based Kaulkin Ginsberg, an M&A advisory firm for companies that outsource business services.
“If [Republican challenger Mitt] Romney wins, people are going to become more laid-back about whether their deals close or not,” Lamm said. “But if [President Barack] Obama wins, you’re going to see a mad rush to get them done in time.”

Stellar Recovery expects further growth in its debt collection business, September 28, 2012
Another key to Stellar Recovery's success, Lamm said, is the fact that it's a hybrid
company that both services debt and purchases debt, which is unusual in the industry.
Stellar Recovery has about $700 million in consumer Joan, cell phone and bank debt under
management.
"It's really difficult to grow in this environment," Lamm said of the industry, "especially if
most of your clients are still credit cards."
