May 19, 2010, Rockville MD: insideARM.com, the leading news and information website for the accounts receivable management industry (ARM), is pleased to honor the winner of the site’s first Collection Story Contest.
Readers were asked to submit positive stories of life on the job. The stories could be funny or poignant, but they had to be respectful. Finalist entries included a story about helping a consumer settle a medical insurance claim; a story about raising money to clear the debt of a shooting victim; and a story about fixing an error in a credit report that enabled a family to buy a house.
Irene H. from the debt collection agency Account Recovery Specialists, Inc. (ARSI) was voted by readers as the winner, with a tale of compassion and genuine kindness. Many years ago, she drew up a quick budget to help a young couple pay off a medical debt – not realizing how large an impact this gesture would make on their lives. The couple returned to see her recently and she feared the worst. However, the couple had brought with them the tattered and worn budget she’d put together and they were asking for her help with another budget — they had paid off their debts and were in a position to buy a home.
“While this story was a standout in our Collection Story Contest, it’s indicative of what many debt collectors do on a day-to-day basis,” said Patrick Lunsford, Senior Editor at insideARM.com. “These stories may not make for attention-grabbing headlines, but they are far more common than the stories used in the usual pieces about debt collectors. Every day, thousands of Americans get out of debt with the help of the accounts receivable management industry.”
