Getting a Company Valuation That Stands Up in Court

April 12th, 2010

When a partner dispute can’t be resolved,
Not just any valuation will do.

Challenge:
While many business partnerships are strong, disputes – like divorces – are more common today than ever before.  When a major portion of your net worth is tied to your company’s value, it’s critical to have an accurate, objective valuation performed that will withstand challenges.

The operating shareholders of a contingency collection agency were in dispute with an inactive shareholder regarding the value of their company.

Solution:
The operating shareholders brought us in to provide a company valuation. Our firm’s involvement in thousands of industry valuations and value discussions over the years gives us an undisputable perspective on value. We worked through the valuation process quickly and provided the operating shareholders with our findings.

The story didn’t end there. The inactive shareholder thought our valuation assessment was too low, and the dispute went to litigation. We stood side-by-side with our client during the proceedings, which lasted almost a year. The end result was that, based on our valuation report and involvement in formal proceedings, the courts ruled in favor of our client.
