Finding Out if the Offer is Competitive

April 12th, 2010

Can you get a better offer?

Profitable companies with good management teams in place don’t have to work hard to get attractive offers. Ironically, the biggest challenge for these companies is often finding out just how competitive the offers really are.

Challenge:
Western Wats was a leader in its niche within market research. The new CEO was hired to grow the company so it would be at maximum value for sale. The CEO knew his company would be attractive to a host of potential buyers, but he wanted to fulfill his mission and ensure he made the best possible deal for his company.

Solution:
Finding interested buyers for such an attractive company is easy, but finding the right deal requires managing the sales process. We approached many strategic buyers who were financially capable. The first offer received was good, but by facilitating competition, we were ultimately able to broker an all-cash deal that was significantly higher than the original offer.
